NFL Draft Gab 2012 NFL Mock Draft V 1.0

1. Indianapolis Colts- (Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford)

This is the no-brainer of the draft, as the Colts know this is the only choice. The only question now is will Peyton Manning be around to mentor Luck for 2012?

2. Washington Redskins- (Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor)

The Skins wheel and deal with the Rams to move up to two, and grab the QB they think will make their offense click for 2012 and beyond. Griffin is a throw first QB, and he will get a chance to let it ride a lot with the Skins in 2012.

3. Minnesota Vikings- (Matt Kalil, OT, USC)

With the two big QB’s off the board, Kalil falls into the lap of the Vikings, who need help on the line and want to get younger. Kalil is the best non-quarterback in this class, and Minnesota has a huge need at left tackle.

4. Cleveland Browns- (Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State)

The Browns want Griffin III, but won’t sell out to get him, allowing the Skins to get up and steal him away at #2, meaning they will settle at four for Blackmon. They watched as A.J. Green revamped the Bengals offense last season, and feel that Blackmon will do the same with theirs.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- (Morris Claiborne, CB, Louisiana State)

The Buccanneers have a lot of questions at the CB spot. Aqib Talib could be heading to jail, and Ronde Barber may not come back, choosing to retire. The CB spot is a need for the Bucs they can’t overlook.

6. S.Louis Rams- (Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa)

The Rams with new coach Jeff Fisher pick up a couple more picks with allowing the Redskins to move up, and take a big time tackle to help protect Sam Bradford and open holes for Steven Jackson. Reiff is the second-best player available behind Trent Richardson

7. Jacksonville Jaguars- (Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina)

The Jags need a big name DE to put pressure on the QB, and Coples will help make that happen. Coples’ size and athleticism allow him to move around from left to right; helping to create a consistent pass rush along with Jeremy Mincey and Tyson Alualu.

8. Miami Dolphins- (Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame)

The Dolphins have a new coach in Joe Philbin, and they will grab his former backup Matt Flynn to play QB, and will also get Floyd to help out at the WR spot to add some offense. It may be a few slots high for Floyd, but he’s going to wind up being a very good NFL WR.

9. Carolina Panthers- (Michael Brockers, DT, LSU)

It’s no secret that Ron Rivera is a defensive coach, and he wants another guy that can rush the QB, and Brockers fits that mold. He will get the push that the team needs, and Rivera is sold that after Newton a year ago, Brockers will be the choice here.

10. Buffalo Bills- (Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford)

The Bills need to shore up the O-line, as they have tried some others at the tackle spot, with Erik Pears and Chris Hairston being the guys in the spots for now. Martin is very good, and his stock has started to rise, making him the choice here.

11. Kansas City Chiefs- (Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama)

Richardson throwing weights around on ESPN has only made his stock rise, and the Chiefs will be more than happy to take him here. Jammal Charles and Richardson will make a great 1-2 punch for KC, and with those two in the backfield, they could return to having the best run game in the league in 2012.

12. Seattle Seahawks- (Devon Still, DE/DT, Penn State)

The Seahawks need to find a way to rush the passer, and Still fits a need here for a team that couldn’t get to the QB last season. Still had a fantastic 2011 campaign and is the top consensus player on the board.

13. Arizona Cardinals- (David DeCastro, OG, Stanford)

The Cardinals need to find a way to protect their investment at QB – whether it’s Kevin Kolb or Peyton Manning, and grabbing DeCastro here makes a lot of sense. DeCastro is the best guard on the board, and while it could be a little early for him here, it will pay off.

14. Dallas Cowboys- (Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama)

Kirkpatrick had recent arrest for marijuana possession that could hurt him, but Jerry Jones is always looking to give second chances, and Kirkpatrick will be a solid fit for Rob Ryan’s defense.

15. Philadelphia Eagles- (Luke Kuechly, ILB, Boston College)

The Eagles need to upgrade the D, and Kuechly fits the need for their defense which struggled all season stopping big plays and the run. Look for Kuechly to come right in and be an upgrade as well as a starter for the Birds.

16. New York Jets- (Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama)

Courtney Upshaw can be effective for a Jets team that wants to put all the talk about an aging defense aside, and he will be a favorite for Rex Ryan and gang green. He has the potential to be an All-Pro type player and should immediately improve the Jets pass rush and run defense.

17. Cincinnati Bengals [from Oakland] – (Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama)

The Bengals have so much money to spend in free agency, but don’t want to pass up this talent, and Jenkins is a very good player that can help out Leon Hall, who continues to rehab. He’ll be fine with the character issues, and the Bengals will do their homework on him.

18. San Diego Chargers- (Melvin Ingram, OLB, South Carolina)

While San Diego also needs help at the O-line spot, they will go linebacker and try to do what they can to put pressure on the QB. Ingram would be a great fit for this defense. He can line up and bring a big physical presence at linebacker for the Bolts.

19. Chicago Bears- (Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina)

It seems like year and year the Bears are talking about adding a name WR to the team, and 2012 is no different. They will grab a big weapon for Jay Cutler, as Jeffery showed he could dominate man-coverage in the SEC conference with his size, strength and hand-eye coordination. He will make an impact for the Bears.

20. Tennessee Titans- (Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois)

Some have Mercilus much lower, but he seems like a really good fit for the Titans, with the ability to defensive end in the 4-3 and rush linebacker 3-4. He will bring a solid defensive presence, something the Titans need to stop the Texans in the South.

21. Cincinnati Bengals- (Lamar Miller, RB, Miami(FL))

The Cats are looking for an eventual replacement for Cedric Benson, even if as a free agent he decides to come back again. Miller may not be the day one starter, but with an offense getting better, he will eventually be the man at the position while Benson may be gone before 2012 gets started.

22. Cleveland Browns [from Atlanta]- (Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State)

The Browns watched last season as right tackle was a spot of disaster, with Tony Pashos was hurt and not very good when he did play near 100 percent. They will go with OSU’s Adams here, and the fans will love it, a guy that will be the RT opposite Joe Thomas for the next decade.

23. Detroit Lions- (Peter Konz, OC, Wisconsin)

Dominic Raiola is not as good as he was, and plus he’s getting long in the tooth, making Konz a fit here at the 23 spot. Konz has the ability to be a ten year starter for the Lions and an immediate upgrade at center.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers- (Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis)

The Steelers are getting old on defense, and that was shown in the playoff loss last year when the team lost two players (Hampton and Keisel) in the playoff game. They will grab a young hungry Poe here, and he can come right in and help the line. He shows the ability to anchor from the nose tackle position with nimble feet to offer an inside push on passing downs.

25. Denver Broncos- (Nick Perry, DE, USC)

While people talk so much about Tim Teobw, it was the Broncos upgrade on defense that led to them being a playoff team last year. Now they get Perry, who enters to help out a pass rush that was not consistent and didn’t get to the QB enough.

26. Houston Texans- (Rueben Randle, WR, LSU)

Another big weapon for the Texans, Randle is a very physical receiver with a good release off the line. He’ll use his height (6-foot-3, 208) to get above defenders, even when on the run or turning around to see the ball. A good fit for a team looking to make it to the AFC Title game in 2012.

27. New England Patriots [from New Orleans] – (Mark Barron, S, Alabama)

The Patriots had to interchange players in their secondary this past season due to injury and inability to execute the scheme responsibilities. Barron was asked to do a lot in Nick Saban’s defense at Alabama. He’s physical, instinctive, smart, and a sound tackler.

28. Green Bay Packers- (Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State)

The 2011 campaign for Cox saw him go for 14.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. He also had 56 tackles, two blocked kicks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery that he returned for 52 yards. Cox has a decent amount of experience despite only being a junior, as he played in 12 games as a freshman and started 11 contests as a sophomore.

29. Baltimore Ravens- (Vontaze Burfict, ILB, Arizona State)

The Birds need Ray Lewis’ successor sooner rather than later, and Burfict is a good possible replacement for him. He fits the hardcore attitude of the Ravens D, and can play next to Lewis and learn from day one.

30. San Francisco 49ers- (Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska)

The Niners couldn’t keep up with the Giants in the NFC Title game, and it seems like Dennard is a solid fit there. Carlos Rogers may or may not be back, and picking Dennard fits the 49er defense. Dennard is a physical press-corner with good hips.

31. New England Patriots- (Mohamed Sanu, WR, Rutgers)

The Patriots have a stable of older receivers and could use some young legs. Chad Ochocinco and Deion Branch are likely to be gone. Mohamed Sanu is a good blocker, sure handed, runs great routes, and is a physical runner after the catch; a tough, versatile football player.

32. New York Giants- (Kendall Reyes, DT, Connecticut)

The 6-4, 300 pound DT was team captain who started all 13 games alternating between end and tackle. He was tied for third on the team with 10 tackles for a loss and also had 2.5 sacks, he will help out an already very good defense for the world champs.
