Richardson, Kirkpatrick, Hightower To Enter 2012 NFL Draft

Alabama running back Trent Richardson, linebacker Dont’a Hightower and cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick will announce their intention to enter the 2012 NFL Draft during a Thursday afternoon press conference.

Crimson Tide beat writer Izzy Gould tweeted the news of Hightower’s departure.

Projected to be the top running back available in the 2012 NFL Draft, Richardson set a Crimson Tide single-season rushing record with 1,679 yards in 2011, adding 21 rushing touchdowns and 29 receptions for 338 yards and three touchdowns out of the backfield to finish third in Heisman Trophy balloting. In his 38-game career, Richardson ran for 3,130 yards and 35 touchdowns with 68 receptions, 730 yards and seven touchdowns as a receiver.

A two-year starter, Kirkpatrick had 91 tackles with three interceptions and 16 PBUs during his 38-game career and, like Richardson, is projected to be a Top 10 pick in April.

Hightower had a team-high 85 tackles in 2011, with 11 tackles for a loss, four quarterback sacks and an interception. Hightower made 234 tackles during his career in Tuscaloosa, with 21 for a loss and five quarterback sacks to go along with his one career interception. Hightower is projected to be a late first round pick.
